starWomen need access to good-quality information about integrative medicine

starBreast cancer shines a light on all the struggles women have but nobody talks about it!

Why waste time and money on anything else?

Invest in an expert and benefit from:

Clarity about your diagnosis and treatment without spending hours researching

How to hold on to your energy and avoid side effects from treatment without interfering with the treatment itself

How to ensure you have the tools you need for optimum recovery even if you have limited time and resources

How to thrive in survivorship even if you are worried about getting there

I have worked with thousands of women over the last twenty years and I have seen it all.

I’ve seen...

starWomen sail through treatment with minimal side effects

starWomen suffer horrifically.

starThose who can run marathons while on chemo, and others who fold themselves into the couch and don’t get out until it is over.

starWomen have to make terrible decisions.

starWomen have to be mom, work full-time, and have unsupportive spouses that they have to contend with during treatment.

The women who do the best are the ones who start their experience with:

“Cancer sucks. But I’m not going to let it get to me.”

These women are resilient, they have taken charge of their treatment options and combined conventional care with integrative options. They have armed themselves with resources, created a support team, and embrace a body-mind-spirit approach to healing. These are the women who live beyond the statistical data and thrive.

Create an Integrative

Roadmap

Women with a clear understanding of their own diagnosis and standard of care treatment—surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—plus options within those categories, are able to make better decisions about their care.

With the right knowledge about your unique situation, you will be able to advocate for yourself to achieve the best outcomes.

The pathology from your biopsy, your labwork, imaging reports, and genetics all contribute to your treatment choices. Understanding what those mean can empower you to ask the right questions and demand great answers.

Conventional, standard-of-care treatment can be enhanced using integrative medicine.

Integrative medicine means alternative or complementary therapies that combine well and safely with conventional treatment. By using natural compounds, diet strategies, mind-body therapies, and simple non-invasive tools for healing, you can minimize the impact of toxic treatments on the body.

Heal your

Biochemical

Terrain

You may feel like you “did everything right” and still got cancer. Or your cancer diagnosis is a big wake-up call to modify your lifestyle...

Either way, understanding that cancer is a metabolic disease and that there are ways to shift your metabolism can change how your body handles both the cancer and its treatment. I call this approach “changing your biochemical terrain,” and it is the basis for an Integrative Plan.

What you eat, how (or if!) you exercise, your sleep patterns, and your stress levels–the Four Cornerstones of health–are the foundation of that biochemical terrain.

The biochemical terrain includes how your body handles blood sugar, inflammation, and hormones, which are all growth factors for cancer cells.

Your terrain can create the perfect environment for cancer to take root, or actively squash it.

If you think about putting a seed into the soil, the quality of the soil is what is going to allow that seed to grow. Either it thrives or it doesn’t. That soil—your biochemical terrain—does the same thing. Addressing the biochemical terrain helps the person with cancer, not the cancer itself.

Develop

Resilience

Long-term clinical outcomes improve with resilience. Resilient women with breast cancer are women with grit.

They advocate for the care they want, don’t settle for vague answers, create a care team and support network during treatment, and have a clear roadmap of their cancer journey that includes integrative medicine.

Women who take these steps have fewer side effects from treatment, and have the support and resources they need.

They create intention for positive outcomes. They are able to handle bumps in the road. Resiliency is tied not just to survival, but to thriving.

The Phases of Integrative Breast Cancer Care

Your First Year with Breast Cancer

You found a lump.

Either a suspicious area was found on routine mammogram, or you felt something abnormal in your breast. That discovery deserves attention, and is followed by biopsy.

Biopsy Pathology

Once the cells of your breast are characterized under the microscope, you will have information about type, stage, aggressiveness, hormone receptor status, and suggestions for treatment. This is the most important step for understanding your diagnosis and treatment options.

Surgical Planning

Once you meet with a breast surgeon, you will have choices regarding smaller or more extensive surgery, reconstruction, and timelines for other therapies. An Integrative Plan can help you prepare for surgery, heal better, and minimize long term post-operative problems.

Medical Oncology Plan

Your Medical Oncologist will discuss possible medication plans that can include intravenous chemotherapy, oral medication, or preventive therapy. Not all breast cancers need chemotherapy! A personalized Integrative Plan can combine natural compounds with your conventional medications safely to minimize side effects and help you tolerate treatment.

Radiation Oncology Plan

Your Radiation Oncologist will expertly map a treatment area to deliver minimal, but targeted radiation to eliminate errant cancer cells following surgery and systemic therapy. An Integrative Plan can help you tolerate radiation, protect skin, and improve side effects of treatment.

Anti-Estrogen Therapy and Survivorship

For many women, estrogen suppressive therapy after active treatment is recommended. Natural compounds and integrative therapies can help you tolerate medication and thrive in survivorship.

Meet the Team

Brenda Frost

Resilience Coach, Bestie, and Breast cancer THRIVER

Brenda chose to THRIVE during treatment rather than just survive. That didn’t mean putting on a happy face every day, but instead choosing to not sink into the "woe is me" mindset that can leave a woman feeling defeated and depressed. She was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer in 2009 right after losing her job. She had a single mastectomy, and started triple-chemo-cocktails just after starting a new one. In Facing Your First Year with Breast Cancer, Brenda shares how she found a resilient mindset that helped through the roughest patches of treatment.
